Shift Ledger
A worksheet for monthly pay that also includes overtime.

You are not becoming an accountant. You are answering two questions from one paystub:

1. What did an hour actually pay?
2. What was one overtime day worth?

Copy these four numbers
- Gross pay this period
- Straight-time hours
- Overtime hours
- The overtime multiplier (usually 1.5)

Ignore voluntary deductions on the first pass. Taxes are not your hourly rate.

Do not divide gross by total hours and call it your base rate when overtime is mixed in. That average hides the premium.

If you know your posted hourly rate, use it. The day math only needs that rate, the length of the day, and the multiplier.

One overtime day
day value = base × hours in the day × multiplier
straight day = base × hours in the day
premium = day value − straight day

Worked example
Base rate: $28
Day length: 12.25 hours
Multiplier: 1.5

Straight day: 28 × 12.25 = $343.00
Overtime day: 28 × 1.5 × 12.25 = $514.50
Premium for working it: $171.50
Three overtime days at that length: $1,543.50

Overwrite the example with your rate. The shape stays.

Second pass
Once the gross day value is honest, look at taxes on that stub as a percent of gross. That is your rough keep-rate. Apply it to the day. Do not invent a new tax model.

What to keep
Write the four numbers every pay period. When extra days are offered, you already know the day.
